This 4-day Easy Rider and dirt bike itinerary takes you from the heritage temples of Siem Reap through the rural streets of Battambang and deep into the rugged, biodiverse trails of Phnum Samkos Wildlife Sanctuary in the Cardamom Mountains. This 4-day Easy Rider motorcycle itinerary covers roughly 550 to 600 kilometers of diverse terrain. It transitions smoothly from the ancient countryside of Siem Reap to the colonial city of Battambang, leading straight into the rugged, remote wilderness of the Phnum Samkos Wildlife Sanctuary in the western Cardamom Mountains before making a return loop.An "Easy Rider" style implies you are either riding on the back with an experienced local guide or driving a reliable dual-sport bike following a lead guide. Because the Phnum Samkos region features challenging dirt tracks, rocky climbs, and changing road conditions, having a local professional guide is essential for navigation, mechanical support, and safety...
- Distance & Riding Time: ~170 km | 4–5 hours.
- Terrain: Flat paved highways mixed with red dirt backroads, rural village tracks, and rice paddy dykes.
- Morning: Meet your Easy Rider team in Siem Reap for a bike briefing, safety checks, and gear fitting. Escape the tourist traffic early by cutting through rural backroads south of National Highway 6. Pass through local villages, watching traditional farming life unfold.
- Afternoon: Arrive in the charming riverside city of Battambang. Head straight to the outskirts to catch a ride on the iconic Battambang Bamboo Train (a makeshift wooden platform powered by a small engine on old rail tracks). Ride out to Phnom Sampov to watch the sunset. Witness millions of bats stream out of the mountain caves in a massive, continuous cloud. Stay overnight in a local hotel in Battambang.
- Distance & Riding Time: ~140 km | 4 hours.
- Terrain: Sweeping mountain asphalt (National Highway 55), breaking off into gravel, steep rocky climbs, and dirt single-tracks.
- Morning: Leave Battambang early and ride south through the historic, former Khmer Rouge stronghold town of Samlaut. The landscape shifts drastically from flat agricultural plains to the towering green walls of the Cardamom Mountains.
- Afternoon: Hit the spectacular National Highway 55. This twisty road scales the creatively named Phnom 1500 mountain peak, offering panoramic views of untouched rainforest canopy. From there, dive down into Pramoay (Veal Veng), the remote frontier hub town serving as the gateway to the Phnum Samkos Wildlife Sanctuary.
- Late Afternoon: Navigate the dirt boundary tracks hugging the Thai border for glimpses of the wilderness. Phnum Samkos is Cambodia's second-highest peak and sits in a highly biodiverse basin. Check into a basic local guesthouse or eco-lodge in Pramoay. Enjoy a traditional Khmer jungle dinner with your crew.
- Distance & Riding Time: ~130 km | 4 hours.
- Terrain: Deep ruts, red clay (exceptionally slippery if wet), bamboo groves, and shallow river crossings.
- Morning: Dedicate your morning to exploring deep jungle trails inside the sanctuary. Your Easy Rider guides will pick tracks suited to your skill level, guiding you over bamboo bridges, loose rock climbs, and hidden forest clearings. You will meet remote ethnic minority communities who call these mountains home.
- Afternoon: Pack up and begin heading east toward the lowlands on the rugged trail to Pursat town. The rough mountain road gradually opens up into wider dirt tracks and rural farmlands. Arrive in the provincial capital of Pursat. After two intense days on the bike, check into a comfortable hotel to wash off the iconic Cardamom red dust, enjoy a cold drink, and relax.
- Distance & Riding Time: ~180 km | 4–5 hours.
- Terrain: Paved highway, transitioning to flat, wide gravel paths and open rice field roads.
- Morning: Depart Pursat and head north toward the massive Tonle Sap Lake basin. Take a boat excursion detour to explore Kompong Luong Floating Village. This is an massive, authentic water community featuring floating houses, schools, shops, and police stations drifting alongside the shores.
- Afternoon: Embark on the final leg of the journey, navigating the open, sun-baked rice field trails wrapping around the eastern and northern edges of the Tonle Sap Lake. The tracks are fast, flat, and offer classic Cambodian landscape vistas. Arrive back in Siem Reap to return your gear. Celebrate completing the loop with your Easy Rider team
