Terrain: Paved roads, red-dirt countryside paths, and river ferries.
Kick off early at 7:30 AM from Phnom Penh.
Take a local wooden ferry across the Mekong River to Koh Dach (Silk Island). Ride down narrow dirt paths shaded by banana trees, stopping to see local families weaving intricate silk patterns on traditional under-house wooden looms.
Head back to the mainland and ride towards the small town of Skun. Stop at the famous Skun Spider Market. If you are feeling brave, sample deep-fried tarantulas, crickets, or grasshoppers seasoned with garlic and chili.
Follow the curves of the Mekong River north along peaceful rural backroads, passing traditional stilted Khmer houses and roaming water buffalo.
Arrive in Kampong Cham, a sleepy riverside town filled with fading French colonial architecture.

Cross the massive bamboo bridge (rebuilt seasonally) or the main bridge to explore the peaceful local farmlands on the eastern bank of the river.
Open up the throttle through the red-dirt roads of Cambodia’s rubber plantation heartlands.
Pull over at a rural village shack to sample Kralan (bamboo sticky rice)—sweet rice mixed with coconut milk and black beans, slow-roasted inside raw bamboo tubes.
Arrive at the spectacular Sambor Prei Kuk archaeological site. This UNESCO World Heritage Site features 7th-century pre-Angkorian brick temples built by the Chenla Empire—hundreds of years older than Angkor Wat!
Ride your bike directly under the jungle canopy as massive tree roots slowly swallow the ancient brick structures.
Check into a local guesthouse or hotel in Kampong Thom for the night.

Leave Kampong Thom early to maximize your daylight hours. Navigate dirt tracks running parallel to the ancient royal highway once used by Khmer kings.
Stop at Kampong Kdei to marvel at Spean Praptos, an incredible 1,000-year-old Angkorian bridge built entirely from laterite stone, featuring beautifully preserved multi-headed Naga carvings.
Before reaching the city center, detour south toward the edge of the great Tonle Sap Lake.
Ride through the towering, stilted houses of Kampong Phluk floating village. Depending on the season, board a wooden longtail boat to glide through flooded mangrove forests.
